Dermal Fillers

Enhance your own natural beauty. Restore age-related volume loss, define facial features, and fill-in winkles + fine lines.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Injectable fillers, also called dermal fillers or soft tissue fillers, can be used to plump lips, smooth wrinkles and folds, and fill in the under-eye hollows known as tear troughs. They can also add volume to cheeks and reduce the appearance of pitted acne scars.

Hyaluronic acid is the most popular FDA-approved filler ingredient, but fillers can also be made of collagen, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, polymethyl methacrylate, or fat that’s harvested from your own body.

  • Injectable treatments are quick, relatively painless, and safe when done by a licensed practitioner. They’re noninvasive, so they require minimal downtime.
  • Hyaluronic acid fillers are nearly identical to what’s produced in our bodies, so it dissolves more naturally over time than other ingredients.
  • Hyaluronic acid fillers can be easily reversed with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down HA, if you don’t like your results.

What is JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® is the #1 selling collection of hyaluronic acid fillers in the U.S. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers adds volume to a different area of the face—without surgery. All JUVÉDERM® fillers are smooth, crystal-clear gels that are administered by injection in your aesthetic healthcare provider’s office.

Where is JUVÉDERM® used?

Different formulations are approved to either volumize cheeks, smooth parentheses lines, smooth vertical lip lines, or plump the lips. The results are subtle and long-lasting.

JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC softens moderate to severe parentheses lines and wrinkles by adding subtle volume around the nose and mouth in adults over the age of 21.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC adds volume to the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss in adults over 21.

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC adds subtle volume to lips and softens the appearance of vertical lip lines.

JUVÉDERM® XC smooths moderate to severe parentheses lines and wrinkles around your nose and mouth.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC adds fullness and plumps lips as well as smooths and corrects moderate to severe parentheses lines in adults.

What is hyaluronic acid?

The JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers is made from a modified form of HA.

What is the treatment experience like?

Your aesthetic healthcare provider will take your medical history and provide a facial analysis. Be prepared to discuss your aesthetic areas of concern. This is not a surgical treatment. Actual treatment with JUVÉDERM® injectable gels can take 15 minutes to 60 minutes, depending on which area of your face is being treated.

Does it hurt?

JUVÉDERM® injectable gels labeled with “XC” contain pain-reducing lidocaine to help manage pain or discomfort during the injection. You may also ask your aesthetic healthcare provider about a topical numbing cream or ice to help further minimize discomfort.

What is the average treatment cost?

The cost not only includes the price of the product but, more importantly, the skill and expertise of the specialist or healthcare professional who is administering your treatment. Look for someone who is licensed and trained and has experience treating patients with the JUVÉDERM® Collection. Be wary of discount products or “cheap” JUVÉDERM® Collection treatments —if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

It is more important to find an experienced specialist who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you.

When will I see results?

You will see results immediately/instantly.

How long do results last?

Results may last one year to two years, with optimal treatment and depending on the formula used. Please read each product description to see how long results last with each formula, based on what was observed in clinical studies.

Are there any reasons I shouldn’t receive JUVÉDERM® injectable gel fillers?

Do not receive JUVÉDERM® injectable gel fillers if you have a history of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), or if you are allergic to lidocaine or the proteins (Gram-positive bacterial proteins) used to make hyaluronic acid (HA) in JUVÉDERM® injectable gel fillers.

What is Restylane?

The Restylane product line of injectable fillers temporarily adds volume to plump lips, lift cheeks, smooth wrinkles, fill in scars and under-eye hollows, and rejuvenate aging hands. All Restylane fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance found naturally in the skin that attracts and holds water to help keep skin plump and hydrated.

What is the Restylane family of products, and how are Restylane® Silk, Restylane® Lyft, Restylane®, Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne different?

The Restylane family of products is a brand of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which includes Restylane Silk, Restylane LyftRestylane, Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne. Each is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid. Each Restylane product is designed for a specific purpose.1

Restylane Silk is the first FDA-approved product specifically designed for subtle lip augmentation and the smoothing of wrinkles around the mouth. It is composed of a gel that is smaller and smoother than other Restylane products, resulting in a softer, more precise result — ideal for restoring and enhancing the lips. Additionally, Silk is administered via ultrafine needle, which is designed for improved accuracy and precision.

Restylane Lyft is approved by the FDA to correct volume deficit in the back of the hands, for cheek augmentation and the correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies, as well as the treatment of moderate to severe facial folds, such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines). Lyft is the first and only hyaluronic filler approved by the FDA to treat face and hands.2,3 Lyft contains 0.3% lidocaine, which is added to reduce the discomfort during treatment.

Restylane is used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane is also indicated for lip augmentation.

Restylane Refyne integrates with your skin to help smooth out the lines that run alongside the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines)4 and the flexibility you need for natural-looking movement and expressions.5,6

Restylane Defyne is designed to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid to help smooth out deeper lines around your mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines)4 while letting you look more natural through a range of facial expressions.7

Restylane products are approved only for patients over the age of 21.

What are “cupid bow” lips?

The “cupid’s bow” is the double curve of the upper lip, resembling the bow of Cupid, Roman god of love. The upper lip is believed to be most attractive when it is well-defined and when the two sides look the same. Everyone’s facial structure is different, and so is everyone’s ideal lip shape and size. Restylane Silk is designed to provide precise lip shaping and line control, resulting in silkier, smoother lips and natural-looking results.

How long do Restylane treatments last?

With full treatment, you can see lasting results for up to 18 months in nasolabial folds with Restylane;10 up to 12 months in the cheeks, up to 6 months in the back of the hands, and up to 6 months in facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, with Restylane Lyft;3 6 months for lips and perioral rhytids with Restylane Silk;11 and up to 12 months in the facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines) with Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne.12,13

How long does it take Restylane treatments to work?

Depending on your volume needs, most Restylane treatment appointments last less than an hour and begin to work almost immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane products act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid (and eventually break down naturally). Each Restylane product is designed for a specific purpose.

How much do Restylane treatments cost?

There are several factors that figure into how much treatment will cost, including:

  • Number of treatment sessions needed
  • Amount of Restylane product used per session
  • Degree of necessary correction determined by you and your specialist
  • Specialist fees
  • Discounts and special offers
  • Geographic market

Since injection costs will vary from person to person, the best way to determine projected costs is to visit with your specialist.

Coupon or rebate programs through Galderma and/or a specialist may be available from time to time. It’s a good idea to ask your specialist if there’s a discount program available at the time of consultation. We highly recommend joining ASPIRE Galderma Rewards, our loyalty program that rewards you with special points, offers and rewards for every Galderma aesthetic treatment you receive — not just the Restylane family.

How many treatments of Restylane products are needed?

Initial Restylane treatments are usually complete in one or two sessions, as needed. Depending on your individual body chemistry, you will work with your specialist to determine a maintenance schedule. Talk to your physician or healthcare professional about your individual needs.

Who should not use Restylane products?

The Restylane family of products should not be used by people who:

  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 22 years of age
  • Have recently used drugs that thin the blood or prevent clotting
  • Have had previous bad allergies, particularly to microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria
  • Have serious allergies to drugs that have previously required in-hospital treatment
  • Have bleeding disorders
  • Have a known allergy to lidocaine, if using Restylane SilkRestylane lyftRestylaneRestylane Refyne or Restylane Defyne
